During a one-day teach-in, I co-authored and presented a talk with Fish McGill titled "AI is Not the End." In our presentation, we shared our perspectives as designers, artists, and educators working with AI, as well as integrating it into our curriculum. We highlighted real-world examples and student experiences, offering quotes that reframe how AI can be used to dismantle gatekeeping and elitism in design.
This event fostered a community conversation about how generative AI will shape our work, creativity, and leisure. Remarks were given by President Mary K. Grant and Provost Brenda Moliffe, with presentations from students, faculty, and staff at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Professors Sara Hartmann and Nita Sturiale organized the event, with the support of the SIM Department and Academic Affairs. The event production team included Owen Greenfield (sound), Kay Ehwa (video switching and editing), Megan Ross (lighting), and Bennie Soja (photography).
