At Northeastern Design Research Week 2023, I co-presented the workshop "Threads of Assumption: AI-Service Design and Weaving" alongside Sofie Hodara, Maria Finkelmeier, and U-Meleni Mhlaba-Adebo. This workshop explored the intersections of design and research, focusing on how artificial intelligence (AI) systems often perpetuate harmful biases. Relying on our collective expertise as artists and designers, we created a meditative space where participants engaged in hands-on activities such as writing and weaving to personalize abstract and sensitive topics. Attendees left with best practices for facilitating workshops on qualitative data collection, strategies for integrating physical making into design processes, and a deeper understanding of how gender bias impacts both individuals and the service design process.
